The Somali language was written in 1972: 34 years is not a long time in which a language matures. The use of Somali language for administration and print media and education in Somalia was a giant cultural leap forward. The irony is that Somali language development stalled because of the insufficient attention standardising Somali language.
Somalitranslation.com welcomes ideas and suggestions about better practices in interpretation and translation for Somalis so that linguistic incongruities -- poor spelling, nonconformity to popular terminology, the urge to use archaic words and sound bombastic--can be weeded out gradually.
Key to achieving this goal is our commitment to promote forums that facilitate exchange of information and debates about translating and interpreting for Somalis.
